A Diary of a School Week

AMy name is Lan. I am fourteen years old. I am a student at Hoa Sen Secondary School. My school is in District 5. I live near my school. Every morning, I walk to school with my sister. My sister's name is Mai. She is twelve years old. We leave home at half past six. We arrive at school at seven o'clock. School starts at seven fifteen. We have five classes every morning. Each class is forty-five minutes long. We have a short break between classes. The big break is at nine thirty. It lasts twenty minutes. Students eat snacks and talk during the big break. I like writing this diary. I write about my school week. I want to show you a normal week for a student like me. My school has about eight hundred students. We wear a white shirt and blue trousers or a blue skirt. Every student must wear the school uniform every day.

BOn Monday, I have six classes. My first class is Math. I do not like Math very much. My teacher is Mr. Hung. He is very strict, and he gives us a lot of homework. After Math, I have English. English is my favourite subject. My English teacher is Ms. Thu. She is kind and friendly. She always smiles at us and speaks slowly. After English, we have History and Geography. Both classes are interesting this week. In the afternoon, I have Physical Education. We play badminton in the school yard. The weather is hot, so we drink a lot of water. I feel very tired after school on Monday. In the evening, I do my homework at my desk. I usually finish my homework by nine o'clock. Then I watch television for thirty minutes with my family. I go to bed at ten o'clock.

CTuesday is a busy day for me. We have Chemistry in the first class of the morning. Chemistry is difficult for me, and I do not understand the lessons well. My classmate Nam helps me with Chemistry after class. He is very good at Science subjects. After Chemistry, we have Vietnamese Literature. We read a short story in class today. The story is about a poor fisherman and his family. Our teacher asks us many questions about the story. In the afternoon, I have Art class. I like Art class a lot because it is relaxing. We draw pictures of flowers today. My picture is not very good, but my teacher says it is fine. After school, I go home and eat dinner with my family. My mother cooks fish and rice for dinner. It is delicious, and I eat two bowls of rice.

DWednesday is test day this week. We have a Math test in the first class. I feel nervous before the test starts. The test has ten questions about numbers and shapes. I study hard the night before the test. I finish the test in thirty minutes. I think I do well, but I am not completely sure. After the test, we have Physics class. Physics is also hard for me this term. In the afternoon, we have a short break, then English again. Ms. Thu gives us new vocabulary words about food and drinks. We practise the new words in pairs. After school, some students go home immediately. Other students stay for extra classes at school. I stay for an extra Math class on Wednesday. The extra class helps me understand the lessons better. I go home at five o'clock in the evening.

EOn Thursday afternoon, I join the school choir. The choir practises in the music room after normal classes. We sing songs for the school festival next month. I enjoy singing very much, even when it is difficult. There are twenty students in the school choir. Our music teacher, Mr. Son, plays the piano for us. We practise for one hour every Thursday afternoon. After choir practice, I always feel happy and relaxed. Some of my friends play football on Thursday afternoon instead. Other friends join the art club or the chess club. Not every student joins a club after school. A few students go home directly after their last class. I always tell my parents about choir practice at dinner. They are happy that I like singing so much.

FFriday is my favourite day of the week. We only have four classes on Friday. The last class always finishes a little early. At the end of the day, we have a short class meeting. Our teacher talks about our results for the whole week. She tells us about our test scores from Wednesday. She also plans some activities for the next week. After school on Friday, I meet my friends near the gate. We often go to a small shop near our school. We buy snacks and cold drinks together and chat. On Saturday morning, I do not go to school at all. I sleep a little later than on school days. I do some housework with my sister in the afternoon. On Sunday, I finish any homework that is left. I also prepare my school bag and clothes for Monday. Then a new school week begins again on Monday morning.
