AMany students today have part-time jobs while they are still in school or college. This is common in cities and towns all over the world. Students work for many reasons. Some need money to pay for books, transport, or phone bills. Others want to save money for the future. Many young people also want to learn new skills and become more independent. A part-time job can teach a student how to manage time, work with other people, and take responsibility. For these reasons, part-time work has become a normal part of student life in many countries, and more and more teenagers and young adults are looking for jobs that fit around their classes. Some students start their first job as early as fifteen or sixteen years old, usually with help from a parent or an older friend.

BThere are several common types of part-time jobs for students. One popular choice is working in a cafe or restaurant. Students often serve food and drinks, clean tables, or work at the cash register. This kind of job can be busy, especially at weekends, but it helps students learn to work quickly and talk to customers. Another popular option is tutoring younger students. A student who is good at maths, English, or science can teach a child after school. Tutoring usually pays better than shop or cafe work, but it takes time to prepare lessons and travel to a student's home. A third common job is helping in a shop or supermarket. Duties include stocking shelves, helping customers find products, and keeping the shop tidy. Some students also work in bookshops, sports centres, or small family businesses owned by relatives or neighbours. These jobs are often easier to find for younger students who do not have much work experience yet, because the manager can train them quickly on simple tasks.

CA recent survey of 200 students in a large city looked at their part-time work habits. The survey found that 45 per cent of the students worked in cafes or restaurants, while 30 per cent worked as tutors. About 20 per cent worked in a shop, and the remaining 5 per cent had other kinds of part-time work, such as helping at a family business. On average, the students worked about ten hours a week, mostly on Saturdays and Sundays. Some students who worked as tutors met their students three times a week, usually for one hour each time. The survey also showed that students earned different amounts of money depending on their job. Tutors earned the most money per hour, followed by shop assistants, and then cafe workers earned the least per hour, although cafe workers often received extra tips from customers.

DPart-time jobs can bring many benefits to students. First, the money earned gives students more freedom. They do not always need to ask their parents for money to buy clothes, go out with friends, or pay for transport. Second, a job teaches practical skills such as speaking politely to customers, solving small problems quickly, and working as part of a team. These skills are useful not only at work but also in daily life. Third, having a part-time job while studying can make a student's CV look stronger when they apply for a full-time job later. Employers often like to see that a young person already has some work experience, even if it is not related to the career they hope to have in the future. For all these reasons, many teachers and parents now support students who want to find a part-time job, as long as study still comes first.

EDespite these benefits, part-time jobs are not always easy for students. The biggest problem is finding enough time. Some students feel tired after work and find it hard to focus on their homework or study for tests. A few students even skip revision because they are too busy or too tired. Balancing school and work can be stressful, especially during exam periods. Because of this, most schools and universities advise students not to work more than fifteen hours a week during term time. Students who work late at night, for example in restaurants, may also lose sleep, and this can affect their concentration in class the next day. Parents sometimes worry that a job will lower their child's grades, although many students say that working actually helps them manage their time better, not worse, because a job forces them to plan their week instead of wasting free time.

FIn conclusion, part-time work offers both opportunities and challenges for students. A good part-time job can teach useful skills, provide extra money, and build confidence, but students must be careful not to let work take over their study time. Experts suggest that students choose jobs with flexible hours, so they can reduce their hours during busy exam weeks. Talking with parents, teachers, or employers about a study timetable can also help students find the right balance. When students manage their time well, a part-time job can be a positive experience that prepares them for the working world, rather than a burden that harms their education.

TRUE / FALSE / NOT GIVEN

Đọc kỹ hơn: phân biệt True/False/Not Given với Yes/No/Not Given.

Multiple Choice

Loại hai đáp án sai trước, rồi mới so hai đáp án còn lại — đừng cố tìm đáp án đúng ngay từ đầu.
