The two maps show how a science park has developed since 2008.
Overall, the park''s framework — its access road, internal roads, roundabout and lake — is entirely unchanged; what has happened instead is infill: every empty plot has been built on, and parking has gone upwards rather than outwards.
In 2008 the park had only three buildings: a research centre at the northern end and two laboratories, A and B, on either side of the central road. A flat surface car park served the site from the south-west, a lake occupied the south-east corner, and the remaining plots were empty grass.
Today the same road layout serves a far denser site. The research centre has been extended, and three new buildings have filled the gaps: a start-up hub in the north-west, a conference centre in the north-east, and a block of innovation labs in the centre. The old car park has been replaced by a multi-storey structure on the same footprint, and the lake — still in its corner — has gained a lakeside café and a footpath linking it to the labs. In short, the park of 2008 was a plan waiting to be filled in; today it is full.
