Maps — A riverside industrial area and its planned redevelopment

The two maps show a riverside industrial area in its present state and the plan for redeveloping it.

Overall, every industrial structure on the site — the two factories, the warehouse, the disused railway siding and the areas of wasteland — will be swept away and replaced by housing and public amenities, while the river to the north and the main road to the south will stay exactly as they are.

At present, the riverbank is lined by two factories and a large warehouse, and a disused railway siding cuts across the middle of the site. The remaining land is largely waste ground, with only a small car park in the south-eastern corner next to the main road.

Under the redevelopment plan, two apartment blocks will occupy the western half of the site, with footpaths leading down towards the water. The eastern riverbank will become a landscaped riverside park, and a small marina for boats will be created on the river itself, close to a new footbridge that will cross to the far bank. Along the main road, the plan places a row of shops and cafés to the west and a school to the east, so that the area will change from a closed industrial strip into an open residential quarter facing the river.
