Maps — Road access to a city hospital in 2008 and 2012

The two maps show the changes made to road access around a city hospital between 2008 and 2012.

Overall, the road network itself follows exactly the same routes in both years; what changed is how traffic is organised on it. Two roundabouts were installed, buses were rerouted to stop at the hospital entrance instead of on the main road, and parking was divided between the public and staff.

In 2008 the hospital stood at the top of Hospital Road, which met the east–west City Road at an ordinary junction; further south, City Road was joined by a side road down to the Ring Road. Bus passengers were dropped at two stops on City Road itself, on either side of the junction, and everyone — staff and public alike — used a single car park to the east of Hospital Road.

By 2012 both of the main junctions had been converted into roundabouts, smoothing the flow of traffic. A new access lane branched off Hospital Road so that buses could pull up at a stop directly outside the hospital entrance, and the stops on the main road disappeared. Parking was also reorganised: the original car park was reserved for the public, while a separate staff car park with its own short access road was opened on the western side.
