The two plans compare the current layout of a university biomedical campus with the way the site is expected to look once the proposed development is complete.

Overall, the western half of the campus will be largely preserved, whereas the open playing fields in the east are to be built over entirely. The site will therefore change from a purely academic campus into one that also provides accommodation and clinical facilities.

The existing buildings on the western side are to be retained. The research laboratories in the north-west will stay in place, although they are scheduled to be extended, and the lecture block below them will remain unchanged. University Road, which runs along the southern edge of the campus, is also unaffected by the plans.

The major changes are concentrated in the eastern half. The playing fields will make way for a teaching hospital in the north-east, with student residences immediately to the south of it. The small café is to be demolished and replaced by a garden, while the existing car park will be rebuilt as a multi-storey facility. Finally, a new internal service road is to be constructed north to south, linking the new hospital to University Road.
