Maps — A regional airport: current layout and planned expansion

The two plans compare a regional airport in its current form with the airport as it will appear after a planned expansion.

Overall, the runway itself will remain exactly as it is; all of the additional capacity is to be created on the ground, through a second terminal, a doubled apron, a parallel taxiway and much better transport links.

At present, a 2.2-kilometre runway runs along the northern edge of the site. A single terminal with six gates stands at the centre, serving an apron with six aircraft stands, and passengers arrive by an access road leading to a flat car park in the south-west. A small cargo building occupies the eastern side of the site.

Under the plan, a new Terminal 2 with ten gates will be built immediately east of the existing building, raising the total number of gates to sixteen, and the apron in front of the terminals will be enlarged to fourteen stands. A new taxiway will run parallel to the runway, allowing aircraft to move more efficiently. On the landside, the flat car park is to be replaced by a multi-storey one, and a rail link with its own station will be brought into the south-eastern corner of the site — at the cost of the current cargo facility, which disappears from the plan.
