The line graph compares the number of international conferences hosted by Vienna, Paris and Singapore at five-year intervals between 2005 and 2020.
Overall, the ranking of the three cities was completely rearranged over the period: Paris fell from first place to last, while Singapore rose from last to first. Vienna grew strongly before losing momentum in the final years.
Singapore recorded the most striking growth. Starting with only 104 conferences in 2005, the city more than tripled its total to 342 by 2020, taking the lead in the final year. Vienna's development was similar but less sustained: its figure rose from 195 to a peak of 352 in 2015, at which point it hosted more conferences than either rival, before slipping back to 318.
Paris followed the opposite path. Having hosted the most conferences in 2005, at 286, the French capital saw its numbers decline at every measurement, to 264, then 238 and finally 196 in 2020. It was overtaken by Vienna before 2010 and by Singapore at around 2013, and by the end of the period it was organising barely half as many conferences as Singapore.
