The line graph illustrates the percentage of adults who said they were satisfied with their national health care system in four countries over a sixteen-year period.
Overall, satisfaction in Denmark was both the highest and the most stable, whereas the British and Italian figures moved in opposite directions and eventually swapped places. Poland recorded the lowest level of satisfaction by the end of the period.
Danish satisfaction held up remarkably well, beginning at 86% and drifting gently upwards to 91% by 2007, with barely any variation in between. The British figure started far lower, at just 40%, but rose consistently at every measurement, reaching 63% in 2007. The two lines crossed over in about 1999, from which point the United Kingdom ranked second among the four countries.
The Italian and Polish figures both followed a downward trajectory. Italy experienced the sharpest fall in the graph, from 58% to 29%, meaning that satisfaction halved over the period. Poland declined more gradually, from 35% to 26%; although its starting point was the lowest of all, it finished only three percentage points below Italy, having lost far less ground.
