| Body 1 (View A: gắn bó lâu) | P: ở lâu mới lên được vị trí sâu và có uy tín nội bộ · E: hiểu tổ chức, mạng lưới quan hệ, được giao việc lớn · Ex: nghề y, luật, kỹ thuật cần nhiều năm mới thành thạo · I: nhảy việc liên tục dễ mãi ở mức bề mặt. |
Some people believe a lifetime with one employer is the wisest path, while others argue that changing jobs regularly brings greater rewards. In my view, the right approach depends on whether a person is still learning, and deliberate moves every few years usually serve a career best.
There is much to be said for staying. Deep expertise takes years to build, and in fields such as medicine, law and engineering the most valuable practitioners are those who have seen the same problems many times over. Long service also brings institutional standing: colleagues trust a known quantity, and the significant projects tend to go to people who have earned that credibility over time. Someone who leaves every eighteen months risks accumulating breadth at the expense of depth, never staying long enough to see a difficult initiative through to its result.
Even so, the argument for moving is compelling in most modern industries. Internal pay rises rarely match the increase available by changing employer, so loyalty is frequently financially penalised. Exposure to different organisations also teaches different systems and cultures, and this variety builds transferable skills that a single workplace cannot provide. The benefit disappears, however, if moves become constant, since nobody develops sound judgement without living with the consequences of their own decisions.
In conclusion, neither extreme is ideal. The useful question is not how many years someone has served but whether they are still growing: while a job continues to teach, staying is sensible, and once it stops teaching, moving on is the better choice.
