Band 8.5 — Bar Chart: Male and Female Graduates in Six Subjects (2025)

The bar chart compares the proportions of male and female students who graduated in six subjects at a single university in 2025.

Overall, men formed the majority of graduates in the two technical disciplines, whereas women predominated in the remaining four subjects. The gender divide was at its most extreme in education and its narrowest in business.

The technical fields were heavily male-dominated. Men accounted for 72% of engineering graduates and 68% of those in computer science, in each case comfortably more than twice the corresponding female share of 28% and 32% respectively. These were the only two subjects in which male graduates outnumbered their female counterparts.

Elsewhere the pattern was reversed. Education displayed the widest gap of all, with women making up 76% of its graduates against a male share of just 24%, a figure more than three times smaller. Women also held a clear majority in law and medicine, at 58% and 55% respectively, while business proved the most evenly balanced subject, splitting 52% to 48% in women's favour, a difference of a mere four percentage points that no other subject came close to matching.
