The bar chart illustrates the percentage of holidaymakers in one country who opted for beach holidays, city breaks and adventure holidays in 2010 and 2025.
Overall, while beach holidays remained the most popular option throughout, they lost considerable ground, whereas the two remaining categories grew, with adventure travel expanding most rapidly.
In 2010, beach holidays clearly dominated, favoured by over half of all travellers at 55%, nearly double the 30% who chose city breaks and almost four times the 15% attracted to adventure trips. By 2025, however, this figure for beach holidays had fallen sharply to 38%, while city breaks had climbed steadily to 35%, leaving the two options practically level.
The most striking shift concerned adventure holidays, whose share nearly doubled, rising from 15% to 27%. Although this category remained the least popular of the three, its rapid growth meant that, by the end of the period, travellers' preferences had become markedly more evenly distributed than they had been fifteen years earlier.
