In crowded cities, more people than ever live in high-rise apartment towers. This essay will examine the advantages and disadvantages of high-rise living before reaching a balanced conclusion.

The advantages begin with efficiency. Building upwards houses many people on little land, keeping homes closer to jobs, transport and services and helping to contain the urban sprawl that eats farmland and lengthens commutes. For residents, towers offer security, lifts, views and often shared facilities — gyms, pools, gardens — that individual houses cannot provide, all with far less maintenance. Environmentally, dense vertical living shortens journeys and shares walls, so energy use per household is typically lower than in scattered suburbs. For city councils, towers are often the only affordable answer to housing shortages.

The disadvantages are social and practical. Tower life can be isolating: neighbours pass in lifts without meeting, and studies repeatedly find weaker community ties in high-rises than on ordinary streets. Wind, noise and the sheer anonymity of hundreds of doors along identical corridors complete the picture. Families with children feel the limits most — no garden, distant playgrounds, and dependence on lifts that makes spontaneous outdoor play difficult. High floors also depend heavily on technology: when lifts fail or emergencies strike, evacuation is slow, and poorly built towers age badly, with service charges rising as buildings deteriorate.

In conclusion, high-rise living uses land and energy efficiently and suits singles and couples who value convenience, but it serves families and community life less well. The wiser path for cities is variety — towers where density is essential, lower housing where children grow — and better design, with shared spaces that turn stacked strangers into neighbours.

Phân tích: Dạng: Advantages & Disadvantages → Discuss both. Bố cục: hai body chia trục “hiệu quả (đô thị/cá nhân/môi trường)” vs “xã hội – thực dụng” — mỗi ý nhỏ có Impact riêng. Từ vựng: urban sprawl, community ties, the sheer anonymity, và cụm kết hay nhất turn stacked strangers into neighbours — âm đầu lặp (st-) tạo nhạc tính. Ngữ pháp: mệnh đề quan hệ rút gọn liên hoàn, cấu trúc with + danh từ + phân từ (with service charges rising as buildings deteriorate). Kết bài đề xuất “variety + design” — không chọn phe nhưng vẫn có chính kiến, đúng yêu cầu dạng này.
